A couple days ago Jean of Orchids and Violets and Sound Wisdom asked me to respond to the prompt of “5 Reasons Why I Blog“. Thanks for the tagging, Jean. So here I am finally getting around to it.
- I believe there is some value to others in sharing the various things I discover and experience. Whether it’s a facinating link, an expanding practice, uplifting work of art or just a piece of my day, I hope that my sharing here is positive.
- I have a lot of wonderful friends scattered across the globe, and keeping in touch with them is often best done online, with this blog being the best lense I can offer to what’s happening in my life. I also have been blessed to be introduced to friends and strangers through writing here that I would not have otherwise. Using this as a hub of communication has been rewarding for years.
- “My blog is the extension of my personality, my voice, my thinking.” C4Chaos summed up my feelings on the intersection of personality and blogs concisely in his “We’re Natural-Born Spiritual Cyborgs” (more on his Transhumanist Week is coming soon). Blogging is the hub of my internet presence and identity, giving me an opportunity to convey my personality, my thoughts and my presence in digital form.
- Blogging helps me clarify my own toughts and provides me with a valuable tool for exploring where I am and where I wish to go. It’s a mirror for my mental landscape, allowing me to take a better look at my interior.
- I love writing. It’s one of my greatest passions and having a blog gives me a focus for my writing. I enjoy being in the process of composing a post, whether lengthy or not. More than all but the first reason, I think this is my biggest drive to blog.
I’m usually not one for tagging on with these, but I’d like to know reasons from Mark, Gwen, Pam, Ashley, Brian, Judy, Mandy and you.
Apollo,
One day I Googled “thai fisherman’s pants” and ended up on your blog. Since that time I have made a habit of checking out Frozen Truth from time to time to see what you’re up to. I’ve found many interesting things here.
I’m a 43-year-old writer who only recently graduated with a B.S. in journalism, and I live in central Illinois (a considerable distance to the south of you). I’m not sure how old you are, but I’m going to guess you’re somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty years my junior. Even so, I’m astonished at how many interests we have in common. I discovered yerba mate several weeks ago, and was startled to see a photograph of your mate gourd and cane bombilla on my next visit to your blog. Strange. I am also interested in meditation and yoga, and I have seen from your writings that you have some interest in these subjects also. Plus, I worked at a hotel several years ago. (I can only hope your experience is better than mine was. I loathed working at that hotel. At one time or another, I worked in almost every department except housekeeping, security and engineering.)
Your writing is straightforward, accessible and always engaging. It reveals the workings of a vigorous and playful mind. You seem to be on an endless journey of self-discovery and self-improvement, and your blogging allows us to share in your discoveries as we attempt our own self-improvement.
I don’t usually leave comments on blogs, but your post on why you blog moved me to let you know that your blogging has indeed provided a positive and enjoyable experience for me, a stranger many miles away. Blogging is like that. You never know who it is going to touch, or what meaning it might have for someone who finds it. A bit like a message in a bottle.
Continued success, happiness and prosperity to you.
Edmund
Thank you Edmund. I am grateful you took the time to comment here.
The synchronicity between us certainly surprising, considering pants were the initial link.
Thank you for your kind words here.
